Our
small kennel, von der Wachtelwiese German Shepherd Dogs (from
the quail meadow) is located in Northern California on Blue Echo
Ranch, also home to Los Chivos Mas Finos!,
superior, grass-fed meat goats. We
specialize in producing working showline German Shepherd Dogs
of sound temperament, correct structure, beauty, and trainability
to do a variety of tasks. We breed no more than one litter per
year, in a home setting.
Since 1990, confidence in our breeding
stock is derived by careful consideration of Schutzhund titled,
working showlines from USA, Canada and Europe. It is our
belief that the best system to evaluate breed worthiness of a German
Shepherd Dog is for it to be trained in the sport of Schutzhund
and/or herding, as Captain Max von Stephanitz originally intended
it over 100 years ago. Radiographs are given a German ‘a’ stamp,
Orthopedic Foundation For Animals (OFA), or PennHip values, and
are methods to evaluate hip structure. Elbows are screened
and rated by OFA, or by evaluation in the country of origin.
Carefully selected family homes
are the only homes where our dogs and puppies will be placed, with
the desire for them to be trained and shown to reach their individual
potential. We will assist with finding resources
for feeding, training and ways to enhance the relationship
between you and your dog throughout your lives together.
